“...minimal admin requirements - setup & it works!”

Alex Broens,
Mailadmin & SARE Ninja

Direct DNS queries are not allowed. Instead, subscribers access the data via rsync where that data is 'fed' into the rbldnsd program, which is run on a computer inside the LAN. Next, the rbldnsd server is queried directly. Often, the rbldnsd server is connected to the subscriber’s regular DNS server via a 'forwarder'. An added benefit is lightening fast answers to queries. Often order of magnitues faster than over-the-Internet queries of third party DNS servers. This alone can make your spam filtering faster and more 'scalable', providing a wonderful added benefit. (Many subscribers then proceed to convert other existing DNSBLs to this process to get even greater performance and scalability from their spam filtering solutions.)

Don’t let this extra software and setup intimidate you. While access to the data requires a subscription, the software required to set this up is *FREE* and available for immediate download.... and there are versions of that software for both Unix and Windows! It can run on either a workstation or server. Very little memory and resources are used. Finally, as needed, once you sign up for the free trial period, we will provide (free) assistance to help you get your rsync and rbldnsd up and running. Don’t feel like you have to figure this out on your own. Many of our current subscribers never did this before until implementing the invaluement DNSBL.

WINDOWS-BASED TESTERS: The only downside is that (in some cases!) Windows users will find themselves (again, sometimes!) needing to ditch the built-in Windows DNS server and purchase Simple DNS Plus for about $79. (This is sold by another company.) But even that comes with a free trial period, giving such subscribers the ability to test this in conjunction with their free trial of the invaluement lists. Therefore, such testers can still conduct a full evaluation without having to commit to paying anything.

WINDOWS & UNIX -BASED TESTERS: For all testers, it takes about 20 minutes to 2 hours to get everything set up and running.... possibly less time if you have previously set up rsync/rbldnsd for other DNSBLs.

Please continue reading. Prices and the actual signup instructions, are within a few 'clicks'.

Why
Not Free?

Most DNSBLs are free. The invaluement lists require a subscription for access. Some may wonder why this isn’t free like many others. Here are some reasons why...

There is a whole huge graveyard of “dead” DNSBLs. A common pattern is where the individual who started the DNSBL eventually found it to be a huge time drain and, therefore, that DNSBL operator burned out and quit. By requiring subscription payments, this allows PowerView Systems to focus on this effort and not get into a financial situation where we cannot afford to maintain the lists anymore. We are committed to not join that graveyard.

Guess what... some of the DNSBLs you thought were free are really not. Many of them cut off access after certain usage levels are reached. Then they often charge considerably more for access than the invaluement DNSBLs. In contrast, by making everyone pay, we are able to keep our price for access very reasonable.

We catch the harder-to-catch spams that other DNSBLs miss. This is NOT easy. And this makes our subscription price worth every penny.

Our hard work and time-consuming efforts reduces our subscriber’s level of hard work, saves them time, and brings them more revenues and market share. This is deserving of compensation and pays for itself many times over. Why spend much more time and more money fighting battles with many series of spam that the invaluement lists have already fought and won?
